Dogs really are our best friends, only their furry.. I never had dogs my whole life (always cats) but once my daughter bought herself an English Staffy, I just fell in love with it (Bella). She's changed the way I view dogs, and now realise what I've been missing out on.. Dogs Rock!! No doubt about that! Love you furry friends!! <3 <3 <3

As a animal control officer and also as a biker baby that was raised with pitbulls , i have seen both sides and delt w pitbulls all my life! This issue is defintly caused by human errors and nite by the breed alone! As responsible adults we need to acknowledge the sheer power of these animals, learn ti respect that power and use it safely to our advantage as we as humans have done with so many other things in this world! And if pitbulls are so bad, then why is the number one bite case breed German shepherds and chihauhaus.
If a dog is breed, trained or loved improperly it will have issues no matter what the breed is! The complete losers that participate in dog fighting are only taking advantage of the abilities of this particular breed and its disgusting and needs to be stopped immeditly!I bet if the punishment was a fight to the death for the convicted owners that the numbers of dog fighting would fall to almost nothing!

I just got my first red nose pit bull puppy . Her name is Piper , I have
her for two weeks now and she is three months old . The people that had her for about two weeks before me were teaching her to be biting all the time .But now I have her not doing that any more . She is so smart and sweet I do not under stand why anyone would show a little puppy things like that thank god that she is mine now . I know that I will enjoy her for many years to come . With all the comments that everyone is posting I know I made the right move by taking her in my life . Thanks to all of you.

I have had my Koko for about 10 years now and will be looking to get another red nosed pit when she passes. She has saved me from domestic violence type relationships, has scared off burglars when I was in the house, and even chased someone who was pepping through my fence. She senses my moods and she has been the best dog I have ever had. I've had Alaskan Huskies, Rottweilers, Sheep dogs, etc, but nothing has compared to my red nose. She was easy to train and can even walk without a leash. Obviously, given all the negative press about pit bulls, people are afraid of her but I get compliments on how beautiful she is from all ages, young and old. The only downfall she does have is she chases after squirrels :-) Koko is protective over myself, my mother, and my little brother...technically any younger person in the house she will protect. Every one she has come in contact with notices she is a very well trained dog and has even gone out to get a dog like her. People do not realize the stereotype that comes with this dog..I have even gone homeless just to protect my dog from the apartment laws; Landlords have told me "Either get rid of your dog or move out" so I always chose the latter. This is probably why she is so attached to me. She does love when we go "Bye Bye" in the car and can understand everything I tell her. At this age, all she does is sleep and can't walk as long as we used to but I still enjoy every minute I have with her. She IS my child.

Amazing comments above. You people are all idiots. These are dangerous dogs, known to turn on a whim - including on their owners. I have personally known several people attacked by them, one of whom had to have her leg amputated due to the damage inflicted by one of these nasty animals. There's a reason many cities have a ban on them: they're dangerous, and if they're not ... they have a high percentage of turning that way for no reason whatsoever.

Thank you for this article, the timing is perfect for the beginning of the New Year. So many pets in this country are overweight or obese - an obvious sign of adoration and spoiling! But I've been guilty of it too. And sometimes it's just a lack of knowledge of what portions are appropriate and what an ideal weight of the pet should be.

My dog has a huge problem with jumping and it pisses me off because I get yelled at by family members that i need to train my dog. I ask them nicely if they could follow a few steps to help with training her not to jump. But my mother in law insists on laughing and thinking its cute when my dog jumps on her and humps her arm out of excitement. Its not like i can just not let her around my dogs because she lives across the street. So I really need help with some kind of solution to solve this problem. I get mad every time because no matter what i say she doesn't listen to what I ask her to do or say to my dog to help with training. PLEASE help!!!
