With November is pet cancer awareness month, there is no better month to educate yourself on cancer in dogs. Early detection is critical in the fight against cancer in dogs. It is a fact that half of pets over the age of ten die of cancer. Knowing the signs of cancer in dogs can help make a diagnosis early and treatment can be given.

At one time cancer would kill our beloved dogs, but now thanks to sophisticated treatments, cancer is claiming fewer dogs! Annual examinations of our furry friends is important! Successful treatment of cancer in dogs depends on early detection. Many times dog owners have no clue their dog has cancer until it is to late.

Here are some signs all dog owners need to look out for!

  • Weight loss despite normal appetite and activity.
  • Difficulty in chewing or swallowing.
  • Any unusually bad smell coming from your dog.
  • Tiring easily and unwillingness to exercise.
  • Going more than a day or two without eating.
  • Discharge or bleeding from any body opening.
  • A growing lump or sore.

If you notice one or more of these symptoms, it is very important you consult with your Vet.
